sounds and silences: SONIC YOUTH

Tengo unas maracas que nunca toco. Están encima de una caja recopilatoria de Buffalo Springfield. Al lado hay dos cajas de fruta de la mudanza (octubre pasado) llenas de vinilos, veo el primero de todos, "Oh Mercy" de Bob Dylan, y encima de todos está "Harvest Moon" de Neil Young. En la otra caja, "Unboxed" de Free Kitten (un grupo raro de Kim Gordon) y "Sonic Youth with Yamatsuka Eye", un disco extravagante de SY (una de mis bandas favoritas), ruidismo sobre piezas de Stockhausen. Me los compré hace mucho, hace más de diez años seguro. A su lado está el tocadiscos, que me regaló Toronado (amigo; y multiinstrumentista-iusfilósofo de la Loco Band), aunque aún no me he comprado el adaptador adecuado para poder utilizarlo, y eso que me apetece mucho. Sobre él tengo el último vinilo que me compré, hace unos meses, "The Natural Bridge" de Silver Jews, una de mis “bandas” favoritas también (bueno, no es una banda, es las canciones de David Berman con amigos-músicos diferentes). Ya no me compro vinilos casi nunca, siempre compro cedes, pero hay alguna ocasión muy especial. Como la última vez que toqué las maracas, un fin de año.
I have a maraca that I never play. It’s set over an anthology box by Buffalo Springfield. Next to it there are two fruit boxes from the moving (last October) full of vinyls, I can see the first one, "Oh Mercy" by Bob Dylan, and over it there’s "Harvest Moon" by Neil Young. Into the other box, "Unboxed" by Free Kitten (a weird Kim Gordon band) and "Sonic Youth with Yamatsuka Eye", an odd album by SY -one of my favourite bands,- noise mixed up with Stockhausen music. I bought them long time ago, more than ten years ago for sure. Beside there’s a record player, a present from Toronado (friend; and multiinstrumentalist-iusphilosopher of the Loco Band), though I didn’t buy the right adapter yet so I still can't use it, but I ‘m looking forward to it. Above it I got the last vinyl I bought months ago, "The Natural Bridge" by Silver Jews, one of my favourite “bands” too (actually it is not a band, it is David Berman songs with different friends-musicians). I don’t buy vinyls anymore, I always buy cd’s, but there are some very special occasions. Like the last time I played the maraca, it was a new year's eve.
