(...) Según un mito americano, la mecedora habría sido inventada por Ben Franklin, a pesar de que ninguna nota de su biografía lo acredita. El origen proviene más bien de Inglaterra en el curso del siglo XVIII (hacia 1725). A partir del siglo XIX, la mecedora comienza a ser fabricada por las empresas de mobiliario, sobre todo, el taller de Duncan Phyfe, pionero en los muebles de estilo Imperio en Nueva York (...). Lo que más me gusta y la razón por la cual Porter Wagoner se arregla para la ocasión, y yo mismo por admiración y respeto tanto a PW como a la propia mecedora en sí siempre que me mezo en el porche imaginario, es su traducción en inglés, ROCKING CHAIR.
(...) According to an American legend, the rocking chair was purportedly invented by Ben Franklin by simply taking a standard chair and adding rockers to it. Cabinetmakers began producing rocking chairs in the early nineteenth century, and many examples from that era still survive today. Their popularity has only increased, and antique rockers of many varieties are highly collectable today (...). What I like the most and the reason why Porter Wagoner is so dressed up for the special occasion, even I agree and dressed up too because I admire him and the rocking chair too, respectfully, everytime I'm rocking down the imaginary porch, is the name of that chair, ROCKING CHAIR.
